Hi Maryam,
I really appreciate you taking the time to do this interview. Here are the questions:-
1. What was your first lucky break to get into the music business?
My first lucky break was connecting with Alan Coelho to collaborate in the studio on some experimental tracks for me
and then I was asked by him to represent TAPPS as the lead singer.
2. Tell us about your time with Tapps and Trans X
TAPPS has given me the opportunity to connect with 80's music lovers around the world and do shows with other artists. I love artists such as Stacey Q, Debbie Deb and The Flirts. Also, I have learned alot working with Alan in the studio he is a remarkable, talented music composer.
I was asked by Pascal from Trans X to perform with him in Los Angeles which was a fantastic experience. It gave me the opportunity to connect not only with hi energy music lovers but also new wave music lovers. He is very talented and very funny!
3. What is your fondest memory of the industry in the 80’s?
My fondest memory is the birth of MTV, the fashion and Madonna!
4. You said you caught up with one of the brothers from Man 2 Man recently. Do you keep in touch with any of the other artists from the era and if so which ones?
I had the pleasure of doing a show with Man to Man in Mexico City a couple of years ago. The artists I do keep in contact with are The Flirts, Tyrants in Therapy, Stacey Q and Debbie Deb.
5. I know from my Facebook group you like a lot of tracks. What was your favorite Italo\Hi Nrg\Eurobeat track and why?
gosh, I have a lot of favorites but to name a few are Fotonovela by Ivan..it has the romantic, yearning magical elements that is missing in today’s music..I like Take Me Now by Persuasion (which I am working on doing a remake) and I love Passion by Bobby O.
6. What do you think of the dance music scene today?
I think the music and dance scene of today lacks the romance and magic of the 80's. Don’t get me wrong, there are talented wonderful artist making music that’s authentic but the majority I would say is manufactured pop.
7. OK my last question, you have just released a great track called "He's Such A Pretender". Tell us more about any upcoming tracks and your plans for the future?
Yes, He's Such A Pretender is my first experimental track as part of my vision to make music that revives the sounds of the 80's. My new dance single is called Let The Music Play and it has an old school Madonna feel to it. After i finish my EP, I would like to tour around the world performing as Maryam Zadeh from TAPPS singing all the hits as well as performing my new material. Stay Tuned!
Once again Maryam, thank you for doing this interview.
"He's Such a Pretender" is the latest hit single by Maryam Zadeh, lead singer from the 80's band, TAPPS (Remember "Forbidden Lover?") It is now available on Itunes. check it out!
