Gina T.Hi Gina,
Thank you for agreeing to doing an interview with me. I’m a huge fan, I love your music and it’s great that you’re still releasing new material. Now for the questions:- 1. What was your first real lucky break to get into the Italo\Euro dance scene? A) My song TOKYO BY NIGHT a worldwide release in 1990. Produced by Adam Schairer. We got married in 1998 :-) 2. I know you were born in the Netherlands, but can you tell us a bit more about Gina T. the person? A) Yes , I was born as Gina Tielman on October 24, in Bussum in the Netherlands. My parents were from Indonesia and moved to Europe 1963. My father Ponthon was in the music business as well. He was part of a Rock'n'Roll Band called THE TIELMAN BROTHERS, very famous in Germany in the late 60's. I could sing before I could talk and walk :-) :-) :-) I joined Kindergarden choir, church gospel choir - teen band .... I started as GINA T . in 1989 with my first hit song "In My Fantasy," followed by : Tokyo by night, You really got me, Hey Angel ..... and many more songs. I live part time in Germany and Naples Florida. I love my husband Adam, my daughter Vanity, my little dog Yorkie Trixi and my fans and friends :-) 3. Music is clearly a huge part of your life, as your whole family is in the music business. What kind of music influenced you when you were growing up? A) I danced to the music of Baccara, Abba, Gloria Gaynor, Police, Bryan Adams, Bee Gees, and many more... 4. What is your fondest memory of the industry in the 80's, do you have any funny stories to tell? A) I always say that I think the 80's were the best time in my life until now. Everything seemed to be so easy ... having fun.. ... to find a job ... making money ... I think I was more relaxed without - I-phone .. I-Mac ... I-Pad ... I -tunes ... Internet :-))))))))) But now we need all the things ... it's a modern world . Nowadays people feel observed ..stressed ...... sad.... are workless... that's why lot of people love the 80's ...the music .... the fashion and style. One of my funny stories : I had to travel to East Berlin to a TV Show it was the the end of the Berlin Wall in 1989. I as a dutch had to pass the wall at Checkpoint Charly and my companies from Germany had to pass the zone via another route. At Checkpoint Charly the west side guarded by the american forces and the east side by the russians. Inside the wall (you had to enter the wall) there was a table where I had to open my bags infront of two russian women in uniform. They were really unfriendly and rough to all people who entered the little control room, but as soon as they have seen my vinyl records and autographs they changed their behaviour. It ended up that I had to sign vinyl records of IN MY FANTASY and autographs. But there are lot of funny stories to tell .... Fans in Chicago in the middle of a cold winter night after a concert were singing my song SUMMERTIME SUMMERTIME infront of the window of my hotel room ... until the police came .. In Austria a fan made a striptease infront of the stage while I was singing - IN MY FANTASY -..... :-) 5. You have had a number of hits, In My Fantasy, Tokyo By Night, You Really Got Me, I Don’t Like Rainy Days, which hits were special and why? A) O.M.G - I love all of my songs .. I think it is because I write all my lyrics and I'm part of the composer team ... but there are also older songs I hate when I hear them.... funny that people especially love these songs :-) and they ask me to sing the songs on stage :-) ( I LOVE TO LOVE YOU ...) I like the most :TOKYO BY NIGHT - SAYONARA - LITTLE BUTTERFLY - dancemusic mixed with asian sound - brings me back to my roots :-) My greatest hits are SAIL OVER SEVEN SEAS, TONIGHT's SO COLD and IN MY FANTASY these aren't dance songs but they are my most sold songs. 6. What was your favourite Italo\Hi Nrg track not realised by yourself and why ? A) DOLCE VITA by Ryan Paris, SELF CONTROL by RAF, I still like the songs - they are timeless. Of course there a more singers and songs I love from the 80's....Hazel Dean, Fancy, Trance X, Ken Lazlo, Kym Li, Ken Lazlo, Amanda Lear, and many more... of course Sandra... C.C.Catch .. 7. Do you keep in touch with any of the artists from the era\genre and if so which ones? A) Not really, because I work and travel a lot and when you meet other artist everybody is too busy with preparing performances... talking to fans.. having interviews... etc.. so there is only a little time for a quick bite, drink or talk :-) There's a lot of running around behind the scene - I love it !!!!!!!!! 8. You have recently released a fantastic album Love Will Survive and magic singles like Little Butterfly? Can you tell us some more about this album and the singles from it? A) Thank you dear Andrew :-) My latest release is an album with dance songs : Little Butterfly - Lady Saigon - Boy oh Boy - Money for my honey... the disco scene love these songs a lot and romantic songs : Now it's raining in the center of my heart, Close your eyes, and a song with my brother Nino - DON'T DRINK & DRIVE to support the organisations MADD and DDAD. I had a lot of fun during the production - we own a recording studio so we don't have to work in a hurry... and I cook for all the musicians. The album was produced by my husband Adam Schairer. Again - I wrote all lyrics and composed them with Adam, Peter B. Herrman and my brother Nino Tielman. 9. As I’m Australian can I ask? Have you ever had the opportunity to travel to Australia? A) No :-( I'm sorry - but I really like to visit your country. 10. What projects are in the pipeline for Gina T. right now? Are you doing any stage shows to support the album? A) Yes, sure - I 'm touring around .... United States.. some european countries...., Poland ... Netherlands .. Belgium... etc. end of June I fly to L.A to produce videos of some songs - finally!!! End of the year I want to join the Japan Music Week in Tokyo. I plan the release of a vinyl edition with all my dancesongs including a remix of TOKYO BY NIGHT and I'm a songwriter for a lot of wellknown german singers... just finished 2 albums :-) Next week I fly to Barcelona - Spain to promote my songs and visit some radio stations. Once again Gina thank you for taking the time to answers these questions, as I know you have a very busy schedule. I have to say : Thank you sooooooo much for the friendly interview your friendship and support. Kisses and greetings to all my fans and lovers of SKERAT's HI NRG Charts Bye ,bye Andrew :-)
