1. How did the lucky break come about, that got you to perform USSR? (A) I auditioned in London with a video company. I sang over the phone to the boss of Baby Records. They played me a demo of USSR. I said I liked it and they flew me to Milan to record it. Next thing I know it's released and doing well and life changes very quickly after that. 2. Was it strange being an Englishman in the Italo\Hi Nrg scene, seeing as the rest of England seemed to be going down the New wave path? (A) Yeah, very strange. It meant that lots of my UK friends and family didn't quite get it although were delighted at the same time. It also gave me some kind of privacy at home, (though not out and about in central London). Personally I still love both New Wave and Italo. I also didn't speak any Italian and had to rely on my hosts speaking in English. There were some other English speaking people around, like Tom Hooker and Baltimora but that was it. 3. What is your fondest memory of your time in the music industry during the '80s? (A) It was such fun and the fans were amazing. I think the age I was aligned with the success of USSR meant I had a rollercoaster 5 years. I remember on my 21st birthday going out with my friends in London the night before, taking a plane to Germany in the early hours, having champagne breakfast. Recording a show (Verflixte Sieben) and having a suprise party in the evening. Next birthday was Florida with Evelyn King and her partner. 4. Do you keep in touch with any of the other artists from the era and which ones are they? (A) I see a range of artists when performing and am good friends with them at that time, but I am shocking at keeping in touch. Marcello d'Azzuro keeps in touch with everyone though and keeps me up to date. 5. I know you have been to Thailand, I'm putting my trust in Wiki there, but I'm curious have you ever been to Australia? (A) I've been to Australia twice and fell in love with the place, I will definately come again. First time was Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road. Last time was Perth and Margaret River. I would emigrate tomorrow if it wasn't for my family back here in the UK. My favourite country and 2 of my greatest friends are Aussies living in Thailand. 6. I believe you still dabble in music a little and DJing as well, do you plan to bring out any singles in the future? (A) I get lots of offers of great songs and some I take up and others I don't. I never say never, though my writing and DJing days are over and I devote my time to being home with my family and to teaching. 7. What was your most favorite Italo\Hi Nrg track and why? (A) It varies, but some of my faves are: Don't wake me up by JD Jaber ( he was a nice guy and such a catchy riff). Future Brain (pure class) Tonight- Ken Laszlo (I love the Italian accent) 8. Are you still a teacher and do you ever sing to the kids at your school? (A) Yes and always. I'm the Vice Principal so teach in class for only a small amount of time, but I do a lot of whole school work (400 kids) and I enjoy singing to them. Once again Eddy thanks for giving me the chance to ask you these questions and an even bigger thank you for the music. You're very welcome! |
